Your supporting statement is an important part of your application. It’s your opportunity to explain why you are interested in the role at Children’s Health Ireland and to demonstrate how your skills, knowledge, and experience align with the job requirements.

We recommend you structure your statement clearly and provide specific examples to show your suitability for the role. When describing your experience, explain:

  • What you did
  • How you did it
  • Why you did it
  • What impact it had

Carefully review the job description and key responsibilities. Pay particular attention to the:

  • Essential criteria – the qualifications, experience, and skills required to perform the role.
  • Desirable criteria – additional experience or skills that would be advantageous but are not mandatory. If you meet most but not all of the desirable criteria, we still encourage you to apply.

If there are any gaps in your employment history, please feel free to explain them. At CHI, we recognise that people follow diverse career paths. You can include career breaks, periods of study, caring responsibilities, or voluntary work as part of your experience.

To structure your examples effectively, we recommend using the STAR technique:

S

Situation
What was the context?

T

Task
What needed to be done?

A

Action
What actions did you take?

R

Result
What was the outcome or impact?

Use clear and positive language, write in the first person (e.g., “I led…”), and focus on your individual contributions.

Finally, please ensure your contact details (email address and phone number) are accurate and up to date. You will receive an email confirming receipt of your application, along with further updates on the outcome of your application. Please note all communications are sent through our Candidate Management System – Rezoomo.

We look forward to hearing from you!
