Expression of Interest for the opening of Starling ward at CHI Crumlin December 2022

Starling ward is a new 9 bedded ward which will be managed by general paediatrics. It will operate 24 hours per day and 7 days per week catering for a specific cohort of patients that meet the criteria for admission. This ward will cater for admissions with an anticipated average length of stay of 48-72hours. The core values of the ware Patient Centred Service:

  • Ensures general paediatrics patients have access to the right clinicians (nursing and medical) at the right time
  • Providing an effective service for patients ensuring they have access to consultants, NCHDs, Nurses & HSCPs as required
  • Providing an efficient service for patients, ensuring they can be discharged home when they are ready and have access to diagnostics and clinicians in a timely manner

We are now inviting formal expressions of interest from Staff Nurses across the four hospitals who wish to be considered for transfer to a Staff Nurse post on Starling Ward.

To ensure patient quality and safety is maintained across the four hospitals, each department, staff grade and hospital will have a maximum number of staff who can transfer and final decision will lie with the DoNs

The process for selecting successful applicants will be by way of skills matching, and will involve the submission of a formal Staff Nurse Transfer form which will be reviewed by the Directors of Nursing.

Those who do not transfer in the first phase will have the opportunity to transfer in subsequent phases, in line with safe staffing requirements across all sites. The first phase of transfer will take place upon the opening of Starling ward which is expected to take place in December 2022.

Informal enquiries or further information can be obtained from:
