Professional Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualification requirements for this post are in line with the Department of Health & Children’s guidelines and the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) Guidelines.
  • It is most important for candidates to provide detailed information on the duration, dates, and specific nature and structure of their training and experience in Professional Psychology.
  • Attention is drawn to the Department of Health and Children’s 2002 circular on qualifications for Psychologist posts. These qualifications took effect from 23 January, 2002, but without prejudice to anyone in a post of basic grade psychologist or above, before this date.

Essential Criteria:

  • Hold a recognised University degree/ diploma obtained with first or second class honours in which psychology was taken as a major subject and honours obtained in that subject

Or

  • Hold a recognised qualification equivalent to the above.
  • Hold a recognised post graduate qualification in clinical, counselling or educational psychology recognised by the Psychological Society of Ireland.
  • Be eligible for senior grade i.e. has a minimum of at least two years’ experience working at staff grade level, following completion of post graduate professional training.
  • Possess the requisite knowledge and ability (to include a high standard of suitability) for proper discharge of duties of the post.
  • Have extensive post qualification experience of working with children/ adolescents in a mental health setting.
  • Have relevant experience  of  clinical audit and research skills
  • Candidates who have completed their post-graduate training outside the Republic of Ireland must ensure that their qualification is validated by the Department of Health and Children at the time of the application.

Desirable Criteria;

  • Have experience of working with children/adolescents with mental health issues in an acute hospital setting or in the context of living with chronic illness.
  • Have additional therapeutic training relevant to a mental health/ hospital setting
  • Have training and experience in the provision of supervision
  • Have demonstrated competence in service development and evaluation.
