Purpose of the Role:

The purpose of this role is to provide a paediatric psychology service for children and young people with a diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes. The post holder will work closely with multidisciplinary team members of the paediatric Diabetes team at CHI at Tallaght.

The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work within a dynamic paediatric Diabetes multi-disciplinary team, providing a service to young people with a diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes, at an inpatient and outpatient level. The successful candidate will work directly with children, adolescents and their families, supporting them through diagnosis and treatment using a range of psychological approaches and with opportunities to carry out individual, family and group interventions.

The successful candidate will become a member of the Paediatric Psychology Department and will have the opportunity to contribute to the running and development of the department.

Essential Criteria:

  • Hold a recognised University degree or diploma obtained with first or second class honours in which Psychology was taken as a major subject and honours obtained in that subject.
  • Hold a postgraduate professional qualification in Psychology recognised by the Psychological Society of Ireland.
  • Candidates who have completed their postgraduate training outside of Ireland must ensure that their qualification is validated by the Department of Health and Children.
  • Be eligible for Senior Grade i.e. has a minimum of two whole years’ experience working at Staff Grade level, following completion of postgraduate professional training.
  • Possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the post.
  • Relevant experience in psychological assessment and therapeutic skills for children, adolescents and their families coping with chronic physical illness.
  • Postgraduate experience of working in an acute paediatric hospital.
