Purpose of the Role

The vision for the new children’s hospital is to be ‘born’ as a Digital Hospital delivering high- quality patient centric care in a cost-effective manner through innovative technology enablement. Technology is embedded in every aspect of the future hospital design from the build to the configuration of the workforce. It is truly one of the key enablers to delivering integrated services to children, young people and their families enabling delivery of the right information, in the right format, in the right place, at the right time, to the right person.

The post holder has a once in a lifetime opportunity to lead one of the most ambitious digital programmes of work ever within the Irish Health Sector with a total projected expenditure of the order of €149 million to transform services within the current hospitals from paper based to a digital first approach. This is an opportunity to modernise health care for children in line with other industries and services in terms of a digital first approach. One of the key projects is the delivery of the first Acute enterprise wide Electronic Healthcare Record (EHR) in the public hospital system, to be implemented in a new purpose-built hospital.

From a business perspective, new IT systems will deliver better data, decision support, financial management, business intelligence and analysis in relation to the performance and ongoing operations of the hospital. World class digital infrastructure will support the experience of the patience journey through CHI with smoother and more efficient patient pathways, together with increased levels of patient information.
