Job Summary

Children’s Health Ireland at Temple Street is a constituent part of the New Children’s Hospital. The Department of Anaesthesia in Temple Street supports the hospital’s role as the National Centre for Paediatric Neurosurgery, Renal Transplantation and Metabolic Diseases. As part of the Children’s Hospital grouping it is aligned with the National Paediatric Model of Care Programme and will form an essential component of the New National Paediatric Hospital on the St. James’s Campus. There are currently 10 permanent Consultant Anaesthesiologists, 7.6 WTE covering 4 operation rooms, an MRI suite, Acute and Chronic pain, pre-assessment, as well as on call commitments to the 9 bedded PICU. All members of the Department are currently engaging in an integration process which will lead to the formation of an Integrated Department of Anaesthesia with Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin.

This post will be an integral component in the Department of Anaesthesia at the New Children’s Hospital and will form an essential role in providing Anaesthesia for complex Neonatal and Paediatric Surgery.

Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital, part of the Ireland East Hospital Group has 31 (9.49 WTE) Orthopaedic Surgeons covering a wide variety of specialities. There are currently 13 (8.01 WTE) permanent Consultant Anaesthetists on the staff of Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital covering seven operating rooms, the High Dependency Unit, Pain Management (acute and chronic) and the Pre Assessment Clinic.

This new post will be closely aligned with future developments in Paediatric and Elective Orthopaedic Care and the Paediatric Component will form an essential part of the continuing efforts to solve waiting list issues in the provision of paediatric scoliosis services in Ireland.
