Children’s Health Ireland (CHI), comprises of the three children’s hospitals at CHI at Crumlin, Dublin 12, CHI at Temple Street, Dublin 1 and CHI at Tallaght, Dublin 24 and the Paediatric Outpatients and Urgent Care Centre, CHI at Connolly Hospital, Dublin 15. The new OPD and Emergency Care Unit in Tallaght opened in Nov 2021.

CHI’s Programme Office, CHI Herberton is located in Rialto, Dublin 8 adjacent to the new children’s hospital which is on the campus shared with St James’s Hospital.

Research & Innovation is a cross-site function, with a core base at CHI at Crumlin. The successful candidate will be required to work across CHI sites as required, in combination with remote working as appropriate. 

The purpose of this post is to Children’s Health Ireland is Ireland’s largest paediatric hospital and the leading centre in Ireland for the conduct of clinical trials and studies in children. A new Clinical Research Centre (CRC) is being setup to support the conduct of research across CHI sites.

The Clinical Research Coordinator will be part of the CRC core team, and will work across sites to support Investigators and research teams with clinical research activities. They will coordinate and be a key point of contact for multiple studies. They will link in closely with the ADON for Clinical Research Operations and Project Managers, ensuring that study activities are carried out effectively and in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards. Throughout the research study lifecycle, this role will provide continuity back-up and support as required to ensure the smooth running of research activities from set-up through to closeout, across the portfolio.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated candidate to be involved in the development of the future research infrastructure at CHI. The role offers opportunities for ongoing professional development and the successful candidate will be provided with training and mentoring specific to their role.

Essential Criteria:

  • BSc in clinical or life science related subject or equivalent third level qualification
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience working in clinical research
  • Thorough knowledge of Good Clinical Practice and of relevant national and international clinical trial regulations
  • Experience in the preparation of submissions to research ethics committees
  • Knowledge of electronic data capture systems and the data management process in clinical studies
  • Having a ‘can-do’ attitude, demonstrating enthusiasm and passion for the role.
  • Ability to lead and communicate effectively and in a professional manner
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • An individual with initiative and good judgement, capable of problem solving and working independently
  • Team player with the aptitude to mentor colleagues and promote a positive learning environment
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Readiness to work to deadlines and flexibility with regard to working hours and remote vs. onsite working
  • Readiness and ability to learn new skills as required by the position

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous experience in a Clinical Research Associate or Coordinator role and working in a clinical environment
  • Previous experience of bio sample processing
  • Knowledge of qualitative research methods and analysis
  • Monitoring and audit experience
  • Prior experience in paediatric research
