Children’s Health Ireland (CHI), comprises of the three children’s hospitals at CHI at Crumlin, Dublin 12, CHI at Temple Street, Dublin 1 and CHI at Tallaght, Dublin 24 and the Paediatric Outpatients and Urgent Care Centre, CHI at Connolly Hospital, Dublin 15. The new OPD and Emergency Care Unit in Tallaght opened in Nov 2021.

CHI’s Programme Office, CHI Herberton is located in Rialto, Dublin 8 adjacent to the new children’s hospital which is on the campus shared with St James’s Hospital.

Research & Innovation is a cross-site function, with a core base at CHI at Crumlin. The successful candidate will be required to work across CHI sites according to project requirements, in combination with remote working as appropriate.

Children’s Health Ireland is Ireland’s largest paediatric hospital and the leading centre in Ireland for the conduct of clinical trials and studies in children. A new Clinical Research Centre (CRC) has been established to support the conduct of research across CHI sites. The Clinical Research Assistant will be part of the CRC core team, and will work across sites to support Principal Investigators (PIs) and research teams to conduct clinical research studies. Their main responsibilities will be supporting the recruitment of study participants, study assessments, data and sample collection and analysis.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated candidate to be involved in the rapidly developing research environment at CHI. The role offers opportunities for ongoing professional development and the successful candidate will be provided with training and mentoring specific to their role.

Essential Criteria:

  • BSc in clinical or life science related subject or equivalent third level qualification
  • Previous relevant experience working in a research role and/or clinical environment
  • Having a ‘can-do’ attitude, demonstrating enthusiasm and passion for the role.
  • Ability to lead and communicate effectively and in a professional manner
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • An individual with initiative and good judgement, capable of problem solving and working independently
  • Team player with the aptitude to mentor colleagues and promote a positive learning environment
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Readiness to work to deadlines and flexibility with regard to working hours and remote vs. onsite working
  • Readiness and ability to learn new skills as required by the position

Desirable Criteria:

  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice and of the governance and legislative requirements relating to the conduct of clinical research in Ireland
  • Experience in the preparation of submissions to research ethics committees
  • Knowledge of qualitative research methods and analysis
  • Knowledge of electronic data capture systems and the data management process in clinical studies
  • Previous experience of bio sample processing
  • Prior experience in Paediatric research
