Purpose of the Role:

The purpose of the post of CPC is to guide and support undergraduate nursing students in assigned clinical areas to ensure that the clinical placement meets the requirements of the education programme with regard to planned experiences and outcomes.

The successful candidate will also:

  • advise, encourage and facilitate nursing students to achieve maximum outcome from clinical placements.
  • ensure that clinical practice assessments are fairly and accurately carried out through effective liaison with Registered Nurses/Preceptors and CNMs.
  • participate in nursing practice development initiatives and promote the application of theoretical knowledge to practice in the clinical areas.

 

 

Essential Criteria:

Candidates must:

  • be registered in the Children’s Division of the active Register held by the NMBI or be entitled to be so registered.
  • have at least 5 years post registration experience with a minimum of 2 years in children’s nursing, to include working with nursing students in clinical areas.
  • be currently in nursing practice.
  • have an academic qualification of not less than level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications.
  • have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
  • have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • demonstrate evidence of continuing learning and professional development.
  • have previous experience of supervision of nursing students.

 

Desirable Criteria:

It is desirable that candidates have:

  • experience of practising in a student support role.
  • experience of supporting nursing students who were experiencing difficulty in meeting clinical practice standards.
  • management skills.
  • experience of involvement in audit or evaluation.
  • evidence of ICT proficiency for the effective delivery of the role.
  • evidence of management experience and education.
