Purpose of the Role:

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) role is designed to provide assurance on medical professional and clinical standards. It is the lead role in clinical leadership and compliance, developing and mandating implementation of medical professional policies, standards, practices and procedures. They are a key member of the CHI Executive function in shaping organisational culture and strategic vision. The CMO advocates for patients at the highest level within CHI and externally.

The successful candidate will represent CHI externally, developing relationships nationally and internationally with other hospitals and health systems, and acts in an ambassador role as the clinical spokesperson for CHI.

Professional Qualifications and Experience:

Education/Qualifications:

  • Possess full registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in a paediatric related specialty or any sub-specialty of Paediatrics.

Experience:

  • Be a medically qualified health professional with a minimum of 15 years’ post-medical qualification experience.
  • Have extensive experience gained as a Medical Leader, ideally in a Paediatric specialty.
  • Have knowledge and experience of Clinical Governance.
  • Have significant organisation change experience/managing difficult and complex change.
